Cassie M. Briggs

(MS PhD)

It all began with a love for nature and doing outdoorsy things. It metamorphosized into a senior thesis on color pigmentation in monarch larvae, a paid summer internship conducting stream surveys, a master’s thesis on invasive crayfish policy, behavior, and genetics, and a doctorate dissertation on population genetics of the federally threatened bog turtle and a pedagogical study on active learning techniques. I thought when I landed my dream job as a college teaching professor at a Division I (R1) University I had finally made it, little did I know it was only the beginning.

It was while teaching biology to college students that I discovered a passion for mentorship. I loved talking with students about their career aspirations and helping them put their best foot forward as they prepared their graduate and medical school application materials.

I found my true passion, coaching aspiring scientists and medical professionals. But along my journey I discovered a shortcoming within science, the lack of diversity among scientists. I was one of the few women herpetologists and the only one in my research lab and the more I looked around I noticed how few people of color were in my department.

These two things, my passion for coaching and the lack of diversity in science inspired me to start Success In Science Career Coaching. If you love science, don’t let anything stand in your way. You belong here, and I can help you find your way.

Ed Tillett (MA)

A consistent theme that is embedded in my approach to supporting those I serve is to elevate underrepresented voices, foster belonging, and create opportunities for success through advocacy and empowerment.

My career began at Michigan State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and a Master of Arts in Health Communication with a specialization in International Development.  While I thought my path was set as a future physician, each step in my journey revealed a greater purpose—helping others navigate their professional journeys and empower them to see the strength that they possess within themselves to be successful.

Through roles in career services, student affairs, and business education, I have developed career programs, expanded employer engagement, and built networks that connect folks of various backgrounds to opportunities.  From leading diversity recruitment efforts to launching signature events, I have worked to bridge the gap between those I serve, and discovery of the careers they aspire to.

Along the way, I met with many folks who despite immense potential, have struggled to find their place and their fit, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked access, mentorship, and guidance. What motivates me in this role is to coach and empower you to take control of your career journey and confidently step into your future.

If you are ready to explore your career path, build your confidence, and access the opportunities you deserve, I’m here to help. You belong in the spaces you aspire to be in, and together, we will make sure you get there.
